“Barn Swallows have been cementing their mud nests to human dwellings for more than 2,000 years. On a vertical face, they build a semicircular cone; and on a platform, a thick rounded cup. This nest was collected in Manchuria and shipped in this colorful box. In the 1800s, their forked tails adorned the bonnets of the fashionable; the outcry for their welfare led to the formation of the Audubon Society.”
