Gravity by Kelly Farley

Contemporary
California

A cascading assemblage of ceramic spheres—each uniquely fired in atmospheric kilns—creates a dynamic sculptural presence. The variation in size and surface treatment of the spheres reflects the unpredictability of natural elements, while their connection through industrial chain links introduces a raw, mechanical tension.

The juxtaposition of distressed brass tubes, rusty hardware, and stacked brass washers furthers this dynamic contrast, merging the organic with the industrial. It embodies both the primal act of formation and the structured imposition of purpose. The sheer weight of the composition, both literal and visual, fosters a sense of suspense, as though the elements are frozen mid-motion.

Approaching the piece, one is drawn into its gravitational pull—a balance between force and fragility, between suspended tension and quiet elegance. Its presence lingers in the mind, an evocative statement on materiality, transformation, and the intersection of art and function.
