Innersection Vanity by J McDonald

On a map, the largest dots are always found at the intersections of lines. The more lines that meet, the bigger the dot. These are the nodes of the world, the energy centers, the places where solitary, disparate paths meet and give rise to something wholly new. These are the particle colliders, the mountain ranges that rise from meetings of tectonic plates, the chance convergence of matter into consciousness, and the conversations between individuals that form the basis of our society. In quantum mechanics, as in sculpture, as in life, there are infinite possible outcomes to an intersection event. The Innersection Vanity is one possible outcome of a series of rectilinear planes colliding with a form. They both affect each other and transform each other, yet retain their individuality. At the same time – like the supernova of a star – they give rise to a new element that did not exist before. This reflective new element simultaneously expands the original constituent parts into new dimensions, and invites the world – invites us – In.
