Los Angeles–based Edwin Maldonado began his career in classic car interiors, developing his dexterity with leather and eventually meeting a master artisan, who mentored him in the lost art of French leather upholstery. His sensual, luxurious forms, like the Seth Chair, owe everything to his careful manipulation of material–natural vegetables-tanned calf hides worked over wood and metal frames via a technique of wetting and steaming. With expert hand-finishing, the designs are instant standouts.
