Lost-wax cast bronze incense burner naturalistically modeled as a ruffled quail, with intricately layered plumage forming the removable cover. Incense smoke escapes through discreet openings among the feathers and beak. Impressed with Kamejo’s rectangular mark to the underside.
Tsumura Kamejo was a rare documented female metalworker who inherited and operated her family’s foundry in Hizen, creating inventive animal-form bronzes for the Japanese domestic market.
